Ancestor Hunters

image002BRINGING FAMILY HISTORY INTO TODAY WITH

ANCESTOR HUNTERS

Despite the suspicion that no one every pays attention to those small calendars of events featured in the St. Pete Times and Tampa Tribune we have learned that people do read them, and there has been quite a bit of interest generated since Jim Crouse placed them in the newspapers a few weeks ago.

Although some of our regulars couldn’t attend the May get-together, we had 3 folks from the community joining us.  One of them even stated that she has found more help and support with the Ancestor Hunters than she had found in other groups she had attended.

Each month we are able to share our successes and frustrations with others who have either just started to learn about their family history or who are further down the trail.  No one is too new – you have to start somewhere and sometime.  Believe it or not, there is not a single person who can take up this hobby without frustrations when the information is not readily available and joy when an elusive ancestor is found.

If you have been unable to join us before, don’t be shy – you have to start sometime!   Just put it on your calendar:  We meet at 9:30 a.m. on the second Saturday of every month in the church kitchen.

Prime Timers - February 2011

The Prime Timers and friends have been extremely busy over the past few weeks.  One evening 26 met at Gus’s for lasagna night, and then went on to Gaither High School for a spectacular performance by the Gaither High School Woodwinds and the St. Olaf’s Band.  We were all amazed at the quality of both bands and fascinated by the fact that for many of the college students, music is not their major.  We could feel the pride of the St. Olaf alumni who were in the audience.  We were all very proud to see our own Joey Sawyers playing oboe in the Gaither band.
